COMMISSIONING
By virtue of being of licensed paralegal under the Law Society of Ontario, we are also called a commissioner for taking affidavits or oaths. At Joston Legal Services we may take affidavits and administer other legal oaths, affirmations, or declarations, within or outside Ontario, or subject to any territorial limit the Attorney General may specify under the Commissioners for taking Affidavits Act.
Below you will find a non-exhaustive list of some documents that we notarize/commission:
Commissioning Oaths and Affidavits
· Affidavits for insurance claims
· Affidavits of service
· Affidavits for name changes
· Affidavits to transfer ownership of vehicles
· Form 36 Affidavits of Divorce
· Affidavits for OSAP applications
· Affidavits of marital status, including separation and common law relationships
· Form 74.8 Affidavit of Execution of Will or Codicil
· Any other affidavit required by law
Fees: $35 for the first commissioned document, $15 for each additional page
NOTARY PUBLIC
As Notary Publics, we can provide services for private individuals or commercial firms. Please note that certain documents will specify whether a Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths is required; we perform both. Please follow the direction of the document or the requesting party. Also, please note that the Notary must see the original document.
Most common tasks performed by a Notary Public officer in Ontario are:
- Preparing and witnessing powers of attorney
- Authenticating personal documents
- Authenticating company and business documents and transactions
- Attestation of Oaths
- Providing Notarial True copies of many document types such as Passports, Birth Certificates, Education Diplomas/Degrees, etc. to name a few
